Hey there,

I'm looking to replace the sedan/caprice traffic cars with something a bit more modern. So I found some designs I think would make a good traffic police replacement or low poly pursuit unit, using NJ's 2008 Chicago CV: (http://www.nfsaddons.com/nfshs/screenshot/car/1850/).

I want to add hubcaps/steelies, a spotlight, a laptop and a prisoner cage, and a Vector lightbar with a pair of dual deck lights on the rear deck. The lights and texture depend on the track, however. I'm aiming to make two versions, for both of the city courses.

----
Atlantica

Design:
Atlantica will be based off of Chicago, with a few tweaks: Instead of "CHICAGO POLICE", the lettering on the side will be "ATLANTICA POLICE;" Instead of the city flag on the rear quarter panel, slap on a US flag; Instead of the STARS badge on the front doors, use the atlantica police badge found on NJ's 1997 Crown Victoria Pursuit.

No don't delete the request I'm saying we have a 98-11 CV base that's low poly for your request I made the line from Forza Horizon 3's Crown Victoria Police Interceptor. I'm sure Max or Paul could take your request with our new base.

I'll see what I can do with one of them, The NYPDish one sounds easiest right now smile.png.

Welcome Southpaw217.I see you gave CVPI19 a car to upload .What other cop cars do you have ? We have lost a lot of police cars when the other site shut down . If you have any of the old cars that we have not posted let use know that would help use out a lot . Thanks .

Unfortunately no. I only have that Caprice because I emailed to myself a few years ago.

Right so some additional last-minute stuff that I forgot to add.

Pushbar: A Setina 400-type pushrod.

Antennae: do how how Toronto has their CVPIs: one on the trunk and one on roof just for flavor (http://enacademic.com/pictures/enwiki/80/Police_Car_51S2_Toronto.jpg)

Ok, Overall design scheme I'm guessing,I'll get to adding parts on a car soon as I get one textured.

Ok, this was NOT a easy scheme like I thought it was gonna be due to TGA space limits and all but I think I've made it work, Unfortunatly I don't know if there's room now for unit number or license plates unsure.gif .

Looks cool happy.png. I think I'll have a go when I get some free time; I'm already forming ideas. I can see a problem, though; an NFS car can only have 16 lights, so it will have to be a choice between deck lights and flashing taillights -- unless you want to sacrifice something else. When I make a model, my light hierarchy is: Lightbar > car lights > extras. I like to make my cars as accurate as possible.

An annoying limitation for me is that a headlight can be programmed to flash, but a taillight can't dry.png.

Hmm well if you're still fiddling with textures you can remove 'patrol' from the fender (replacing with the unit number) and 'ECPD' from the trunk and hood (leaving 'POLICE' in the center of both) maybe?

Ah, So then just move the POLICE to the trunk top rather than the tip?

Here's the TGA by the way, In order to make the side badges clear and not blury that takes a bit of room too.

You'd have to make a seperate set of siren lights to flash tail lights, I usually don't bother, As for other lights, ANY : P lights (directional signals) can be deleted as the car has nice pre lit : ODL so no need to waste lights on them. I didn't see yet how many lights is left over but after deleting the P lights I was able to add 8 more lights and it never gave the 16 light message so I'd guess around 10 maybe is left that can used unsure.gif.

I'll check when I get off duty, Got to get ready for work now, Later.

Keep on the tip, and split 'Pol' and 'ice' around the ford badge, like so: https://www.flickr.com/photos/taffydog06/5623700568/in/pool-701041@N21/

also it looks fantastic. thanks for still being interested in modding this old game.

right, so I'm assuming we're referring to the Atlantica unit I had in mind? If so: yes, drop the deck lights and keep the flashing tailights.

Good news, We get tonight off (though I wasted a trip and gas going in sad.png ) We don't go back to work til Sunday night per Good Friday-Easter break biggrin.png, so I'll have a go at the rest of this on the car. Splitting POL ICE is easy biggrin.png.

I've chosen THIS car to pull the lightbar from since it looks great and is most detailed compared to the others I have in my parts bin.

Ah, funny you mention that, I plan on doing a Iran police car one day, I also have some DPRK cruisers in the works (they might get me/us hate mail when released) but oh well, Just cause I like a certain police cruiser don't mean I support a bad government sleep.png .

I finally know what an Iranian police car looks like happy.png. They remind me of Chilean police cars.

By the way, Paul, that lightbar is massively high-poly (over 2000 I think), so you might be better off using Nils's version. I was going to edit it to make it more detailed, but I never got around to it. Since both requests are supposed to have Vectors, I might do that first. I made a minor edit for the Philadelphia PD 1997 CVPI; you can use that if you want.

Also, the CVPI base only has 7 essential lights, so there's room for 9 extras (or 10 if you delete the third brake light). And you can probably remove the hubcap texture from the TGA.

You don't mind if I make my own versions of these cars, do you? I'm quite interested in the ideas (and two are better than one, right?)

Sure, Gohead..

My version on ECPD has 6 lights for the Vector (as the center is rarely used on these) and the rear deck lights lit, I deleted the brake light already and switched the tail lights to brake lights (never figured out why people likes to make just 1 brake light on bases laugh.png )

Poly count so far on mine is 7585, Adding the LapTop to this might push it to 8000+ but not much more, I also put a nice cage into it too. biggrin.png .

Yea, I'm Iranian myself and that's why I had never made Iranian cop car.

I had a look at the car you mentioned Max, I think (and it's more accurate based on the shape of the rotators this lightbar has) I could slap the insides onto that Vector of Nils's and then cut off the round rotators it has on there already and put on the base plate the rotators from your StreetHawk. wink.png .

Posted by: Paul Spain Mar 30 2018, 02:20 PM
Ok, Seems Max has put good enough rotators into that modded Vector, So I used those happy.png , I added the LapTop,cage, pushbar, and antennas as per requested. Lastly I gave it some plates and also decided to use Chris's DashMiser textures on those rear deck lights to make them even better biggrin.png. Car stands at 5258 polys now.

I decided to give it yellow plates to contrast all the blue we got going here tongue.png. If you want them another color you can change them to what ever, I made the plate space on the TGA a bit bigger than before to make that easy.

Let me know what you think of it wink.png .

That's because taillights function as brake lights; they get brighter when you put the brakes on. Brake light dummies are only needed for lights that only function as brake lights.

The car looks really good now happy.png. The poly count is low if you consider all the equipment.

wink.png Glad you like it. I'm going to work on some projects now, I await Brabus's versions to see what they'll look like.

Posted by: BrabusAMG Apr 1 2018, 10:13 PM
I re-made the Vector today (which took less time than I thought) and I have compiled my first concept of the ECPD car.

Now I don't want to "compete" with Paul's version; I'm just making a different one. I chose the 2011 CVPI and gave it hubcaps, a different nudge-bar, different deck lights and more interior fittings. I also gave it two spotlights instead of one.

Please note that I haven't done the texture mapping yet, so the light colours are not final. Also, this vehicle has only 4744 polygons. Surprised? So was I! laugh.png

Posted by: BrabusAMG Apr 3 2018, 07:03 PM
All done now! I added the antennae as per the earlier request, so the car now has 4832 polygons.

I decided to make mine a highway patrol unit, to make it more distinct from Paul's. I kept the brake light and made all 7 Vector lights functional. That meant the deck lights could only be one colour each, so I made one red and the other orange. I chose orange instead of blue because several studies have proven that orange lights reduce the risk of getting hit while stopped. Driver safety is especially important for the highway patrol wink.png. If you don't like orange, I can make it blue if you want.

I also gave the car a real number plate. I chose New Jersey because their plates look like the ones Paul put on his car. I kept the numbering scheme that you suggested; this car has a higher number because it's a later model.

Oh by the way, the little diamonds on the model are the light "dummies". That's how Zmodeler displays them. Halfway through making these screenshots, I realised I had left them on rolleyes.gif.

Posted by: MNaeemi777 Apr 3 2018, 10:49 PM
Some cop cars of Hot Pursuit have same "Courtesy, Professional, Respect". By the way, the car is pretty. Good luck Max! smile.png

Right. But I'm trying to say that we could do like Generic/Fictional ---> Empire City Police ---> Your car, AMG's Standard Patrol Car (just switch out HWY for a PCT and #), and AMG's Empire City Police Highway Patrol Car.

Posted by: BrabusAMG Apr 6 2018, 01:11 AM
That's what I was just thinking wink.png. Will do. I might change the orange deck light to blue for the PCT unit, so you can tell them apart at a distance.

Here are some screenshots of the HWY unit in-game:

Great Job man . wink.png

Let's keep it standard patrol for now. I mean, it's perfect as is.

I give the current ECPD units... two thumbs up!

That's what I was just thinking wink.png. Will do. I might change the orange deck light to blue for the PCT unit, so you can tell them apart at a distance.

Here are some screenshots of the HWY unit in-game:

I couldn't help but notice you've scooted the badge over closer to the curves on the fender and I kept it on the straight part as ISP and Sparta police do with their's.

Yes, that's right. Due to the way the TGA was laid out, I couldn't get any closer to the doors without making the badge smaller. If I did that, it would lose detail.

I decided to alter the badge to make it look better on the car. I also gave the car a damage model and split it into the two versions. Here's the highway patrol unit:

And here's the standard patrol unit:

As well as changing the orange light to blue, I removed the radar and changed the unit and plate numbers.

The HWY unit has 4832 polygons and the PCT unit has 4784.

Nice work! I REALLY like this edition: between being lower-poly and two editions to flesh out the fleet, this is a masterpiece of car editing! happy.png

Posted by: BrabusAMG Apr 10 2018, 04:06 PM
biggrin.png Thanks! Using the PCT version to replace the traffic Caprice, the HWY version to replace the Diablo and Paul's version as the player's vehicle, you can have the complete ECPD fleet in a race. wink.png

The files have been uploaded. Now for the Atlantica unit!

Nice!
A couple of suggestion if we're doing two cars for Atlantica, but how about an Whelen Edge (replacing the vector from earlier) and a Whelen Liberty in blue-blue and coloured in: One retro, one modernized?

License Plate: Florida City Plates or Hawaii (HPD = Honolulu Police Department, switch to APD)

If at all possible could you put unit number 217 on the Liberty unit and on the trunk lid for air units to see, and 353 to the Edge unit? And make the deck lights both blue?

OK. I think I'll choose Florida, because I can make a plate from scratch instead of using a photo (and Florida has an Atlantic coast). wink.png

Or this: https://www.acme.com/licensemaker/

Or this: https://www.licenseplates.tv/license-plates.html

Here's the current progress. I'm undecided about the two stars on the back; I'm thinking of just making it a basic stripe instead. Let me know what you think. There was no texture space for flags of any kind, I'm afraid. I took a few styling cues from Honolulu PD and Atlanta PD as well as Chicago. Since front plates are not required in Florida, I decided to get creative with it, as some agencies do.

blink.gif ummmm that came out MUCH better than expected. that is gorgeous. You should be really proud of this, you got a gift for making these look pretty realistic.

To be fair the two badges on trunk are seen on Miami-Dade units:

So there's a real-life precedence.

Thaaat said, last edit - shove the unit number on the roof and we're all set!

Thanks for your work, I can't wait to reinstall High Stakes to roll these cars!!!

I've finally sorted my problems with HS, so the car should finally be released soon!

I'm relieved that I can finally take screenshots again happy.png.
