Hey hey everyone! I'm new here, your head admin (NFS Police Force over at NFSCars) invited me! I was wondering if anyone here could help me out by UV mapping a car for me? I'd do it myself, but both ZModeler and FCE Finish 2 crash on me whenever I attempt to map. Here's some pictures of my progress on it! (Car is based on Ryuji Kainoh's NFS3 New Beetle RSi.)

After the initial conversion of the base, the alphas were set to be read as a convertible top, so it was only showing in beige and black.

When damaged in a race, the body faces "shatter" like glass, complete with a shattering glass sound effect. Not really sure how to fix this...

Eventually I found a program that let me import and export .TGA files as .BMPs, and I got the colors working finally, and tried out some new wheels. (I really like these! I'll probably use them on the career mode upgrade. They're from RK's Golf GTI.)

After that I started preparing the textures for the new body. I ripped textures from the N64 game "Beetle Adventure Racing" and combined these with the existing textures... I think they look decent.

Here's the car as it sits, with the new model ingame. The garbled textures are a result of me filling all the faces in with the texture in ZModeler so it runs ingame. (I can fill, but I can't change what part of the texture a polygon reads from, as the program crashes.)

Any help is appreciated... And since this is a site dedicated to NFS cop cars, I'm not against anyone making a pursuit version! (Maybe it can replace the stock NFS Eagle Talon? tongue.png)

As for your problem, I'm not surprised that FCE Finish crashes as it has problems with UV coordinates lying out of the texture.

ZModeler on the other hand has no problem with repeating the texture as needed. I assume that you're using 1.07b? What happens when you click 'Reset UV' before you assign it?

The false damage can easily be corrected, select all of the body's or even car's polygons, then open 'Plugins' from the top menu bar and then 'FCE Custom Settings'. In the pop-up window uncheck anything that contains the word 'window', click 'Apply' and you'll be set.

By the way, when you pause the game, you can press F1 to hide the menu, F3 to freeze it and F4/F5 to control the rotation direction.

Hey hey, and thanks for the welcome!

Yep, 1.07b! I had no idea you were supposed to reset first, but I'm doing that as I type to see if that crashes it too... When I reset the polygon turns dark grey. I go to modify -> move and then click into the UV mapper view window, but when I click on the polygon there, nothing at all happens. A texture appeared on the poly in 3D view, but the triangle appears far outside of the texture area. Here's a screenshot.

Indeed! I've seen some of XJ's work before, it's pretty nice. They made a Beetle actually, that I'd probably be using if I were willing to go high poly. XP

EDIT: Yeah, the dummys are actually copypasted off of another, larger car but it's good to know the naming structure is correct! I'll have to move them to the correct areas once I get the textures on so I can see where to put them. tongue.png

Also, as a question of preference, do you guys think I should keep the 75% Ryuji Kainoh sourced model, or should I try to rip the official EA model from Beetle Adventure Racing?

Oh, well that's actually because I filled all the faces in using select all and assign UV, which apparently assigns them all to random places on the UV map.
