I think Commissioners are like the IAD of police chiefs, They police the police chiefs I think.

One of the fellow that gave it to me relatives got arrested 35 years ago as a young teen for shenanigans, Nothing major, I think he said it was shooting a shed with a BB gun, So anyway while he was cuffed and in the back of the police car he began to fumble around in the seat, He dug this badge out of the inside of it. When the cop took him out to book him he wasn't researched again (as he should have been) so he had the badge, After his parents bailed him out he had it hid in his room, 35 years later he gave it to his brother in law, Then that guy (whom I work with) gave it to me after he found out I collect badges..Said he never met anyone who collected badges and thought that was intriguing. He said he knew I'd enjoy having it.

I only wonder how a police chief badge got back there, I guess the chief was shagging a girl on or off duty back there and it fell out of his pocket LOL.
Truth is stranger than fiction sometimes, If any one thing would have happened he'd have got caught, Had the cop seen him fumbling around back there while cuffed, had he been researched before entering the jail (as he was supposed to have been), Had his parents got nosey and snooped around in his room. LOL. Truth is stranger than fiction sometimes.

But nothing happened and so he had the badge for 35 years LOL.
He finally gave it away to his brother in law and that fellow is the guy I work with and he gave it to me Sunday night.

That is a pretty cool story. as a cadet and somone that loves military stuff, often the story behind the item is cooler then the item itself.

That's a nice story, I collect police badges myself, I got these 4 so far:

Pheonix Police K-9 Badge, Arizona
New York Sanitation Police Badge, NY
Elwha Tribal Police Badge, Washington
NYPD Chief Surgeon Badge, NY

last one is a doctor in a police uniform, but that makes it special I think.

If anyone wants to buy badges I know a great guy in Germany that sells 1000's of very nice badges (not those göde/gode replicas). I got the k-9 and Elwha badge from him.

I can't seem to get the pic to load in here, but works if you click the link:

And does anyone know a forum or reddit or something there ppl show off their badges? this is the closest site I can think of to post them on.

I actually quite like Göde, They offer collectors a reasonably priced badge and in some cases it's your only option, I live in a state with insanely strict badge laws..They won't let you get badges of that state unless it's your agency you're serving with.I have brought up the idea of a database for us collectors with free registration. You'd register (thus showing you're not misusing them or patches, uniforms, etc.) and once registered you could buy what ever you could afford, even having items custom made by patch/badge makers wink.png . Rather than give it a whirl I was scoffed at dry.png sad.png . Seems they have no intrest in us collectors and only wanna serve those working the agencies. Göde its self isn't junk and offers good quality badges without the hoops having to be jumped through, I only wish they had a website or at least stores in the U.S. selling them. Blackington,Smith-Warren,and Irving S. Hahn won't make nothing special for collectors if you ask, I tried to get some of my state's badges made by them and was denied. All 1 would sell is a badge that says Eternal Tax Payer or something like that.

Göde seems fine, they make so so many badges it amazes me sometimes, the badges this German seller has sure are expensive, and Im not joking when I say he has like 1000, but he has been collecting for 30 years.

I didn't know some places had it that rough to collect badges that was cool to know, when I told some of my friends US customs would stop me if I took my badges with me if I moved there, they were like no way, but totally yes way.

Bit unfair us EU ppl have it so much easier to collect US badges, from my experience almost all collectors are either from Germany or UK, or US in some states at least.

You are correct, Göde makes alot of Polizei but also other countries badges for collectors, Quality is so nice they also serve as backup badges to actual Officers. As for badge laws it got tougher after 9-11, Prior to that it was easy if you could afford them..Now though you most likely can't get badges of the state you reside in and Military Police agencies= Forget it unless you have a thing called Quarters Master's Pass or a Dept. signed letter..But I was lucky enough to buy of various agencies a few and the seller found a way to get them to me (they was in Philippines) They simply put on the package "Metal discs" and to my amazement they made it and it hadn't even been opened by nosey postal officials.

I have to say the coodagras of my collection is my 2 North Korean Police badges, Likely no one else outside Asia has these. wink.png
