GM in Detroit has decided to pull the plug on Chevrolet in europe & shut down operations of Holden in Australia which would mean if the next generation Chevrolet SS sedan were made it would have to be built in America along with the Caprice PPV for police. First Ford announces back in the spring that not only is the Falcon dead but they are ending operations in Australa now GM is following suit with Holden leaving Toyota the only company in Australia. I will never forget Holden for making the 3rd generation GTO based on the Monaro, the G8 based on the Series I VE Commodore, the Caprice PPV based on the WM & WN Caprice, the Chevrolet SS based on the VF Commodore & HSVs possibly coming to America as Chevys too. Now however Holden will be importing starting in 2018 & beyond, still servicing vehicles, & continue to be a designer for other GM brands as well.

Here's updates that relate to the Caprice PPV & SS sedan moving production to America starting next year as well as the next Commodore being based off of the LaCrosse/XTS/Impala & being made in China. This only affects Australia not the US since the Impala. the XTS, & the North American version of the LaCrosse will still be made in America.

A Chinese Commodore? Four cylinder? FRONT WHEEL DRIVE? I think thousands of Holden fans around Australasia have now had heart attacks. I think it would be better to discontinue the Commodore name altogether.

Did they learn nothing from history? Obviously not, otherwise they would have realised that nobody is going to buy a four-cylinder Commodore. I wouldn't. It will be underpowered for its size and hopeless on long motorways. With front-wheel drive, it will be even worse. It's ugly, too.

Unless it has a V8 option, it is not a Commodore. Without a wagon version, it is even less so.

Let's hope HSV will be able to save it.

given large sedan sales in Australia are plummeting since a time ago, it won't matter.

Actually its confirmed that it will not be the Chinese who make the car but rather the Germans Opel will be making the next Commodore based on the next Insignia. As for V8 cars I read that Holden & HSV could get the next generation Camaro and the Caprice could live on as RWD V6 sedan based on the new Cadillac CT6.
