According to recent reports, GM plans to stop producing the Chevy Sonic (called the Holden Barina down under) and may even stop building the Impala and Volt.

Ford is possibly considering dropping the Taurus and North American-market Fiesta. Chrysler might be thinking of discontinuing the Chrysler 300 and Dodge Charger.

Apparently, the reasons for these decisions are poor sales and the popularity of SUVs instead of cars. I have to say I don't understand the SUV craze. If you don't drive off-road at least occasionally, just buy a car! SUVs aren't much safer than normal cars anyway.

Well I guess it'll lower the cost of cars left out there, OR sky rocket them like the 1950's classics are going now in good shape tongue.png. Hmmn. Will the president redo Cash Of Clunkers as people rush off to get the latest SUVs? I can't help but think the auto companies are way over reacting here, Yeah sales may be down but give it a while, Maybe lower your prices and people will buy more of model X car, etc. Don't cop out when the going gets tough. sad.png

American automakers know they can get bailed out by their government and don't care about moral hazard anymore. Are we really surprised?

And don't forget, most large corporations only think about what's going to make them the most money. If everyone's buying SUVs and pick-ups and fewer small cars, then they follow the market. That's why Porsche, Maserati, Alfa Romeo etc have started making SUVs. Even Ferrari is thinking about it!

The Taurus, Fusion, Fiesta, & Focus will be discontinued that was confirmed in the news. Max as for the Charger it will have another generation it will be built on a new platform, the Impala might have another generation too. The Focus will still be sold as only a hatchback no sedan variants in America in the future and the Taurus does have a 7th generation but its only sold in China.

The reason why the Holden built Caprice was discontinued along with the Commodore & its variants was because of imports in Australia, as well as politicians in the country not standing up for the automotive workers which forced GM to close the Elizabeth South Australia plant so the PPV was on its way out because of the stated reasons above but the rise in SUV sales in the police market also killed hopes for a 7th generation altogether.
