NFS Police H.Q. Forums > Need for Speed Car Editing > Code 4's NFS 4 Police Cars |
Posted by: Code 4 Dec 14 2014, 04:04 AM |
Hi guys!, It's been a while since I started a topic here on NFS Police HQ. I'm mostly active on NFSADDONS with creating tracks for NFS4 and adding screenshots to the "Screen of the day'' section. In some of my screens there appeared some police vehicles I use as traffic replacements. Mostly Crown Victoria's. I got many questions about these CVPI's because these are very decent looking cars to use as traffic replacements. Now I got the permission to Upload these cars here on NFS Police HQ. The reason why these cars are usefull as traffic replacements is obviously because of a low polycount. An example: This crownvic consists 3161 polies. Low enough to use as a traffic replacement. The policy that I use for my game to prevent it from crashing is: Standard cars: Max. 3000 polies. Traffic Police cars: Max. 3500 polies. Replacement Camaro, Corvette, Diablo, Porsche: Max. 2500 polies. Unfortunately, only one racetrack will have issues with larger polycounts. And that track is Dolphin cove. For that track I use traffic police cars with max 3000 polies. My idea with this topic is to show you my creations. Most of them will be usefull as traffic replacements. Greetings, Code 4 |

Nice to see you back! |
Posted by: Paul Spain Dec 14 2014, 05:52 AM |
Iven if you need to cut polys further I got 40 poly wheels I use..Leaves more room for high detailed lightbars on traffic cars. |
Posted by: XJ220 Dec 14 2014, 07:08 AM |
@ Code 4 Great to see a new topic of yours, looking forward to updates! @ Paul: Code 4 is well capable of adding a freaking CYLINDER to his cars himself. Seriously. |
Posted by: Code 4 Dec 15 2014, 07:58 AM |
@Paul, I will keep these wheels. They look much better than 40 poly wheels. Here I have some screens from most of the cars I made through the years. Not all of them are under the 3500 polies policy. All of them are under 4000 polies: California Highway Patrol Duluth Police Department Huntington Beach Police Orange County Sheriff Oxnard Police Department Palm Desert Police Department San Diego Police Department Tennessee State Highway Patrol Torrance Police Department Ventura County Sheriff Greetings, Code 4 |
Posted by: XJ220 Dec 16 2014, 07:38 AM |
That is a very nice fleet! Especially the CHP and Orange CS cruisers Just the Ventura CS unit could a nicer hubcap texture, it seems. By the way, why no transparency in these shots? Top secret interiors? |
Posted by: NFS Police Force Dec 16 2014, 10:17 AM |
Cool cars.We can lower those cars more to make them to work on all tracks .We have people that can do that . |
Posted by: Code 4 Dec 17 2014, 02:37 AM |
@XJ220, The screenshots were made in Zmodeler. Transparancy was switched off at that moment. The wheelcaps of the Ventura CS look much better in game. @ NFS Police Force, I think if you lower the polycount of this Crownvic more, it will lose many details. I never saw a Crownvic for NFS4 with the same aspects as this one which was able to use as a traffic replacement to be honest. Greetings, Code 4 |
Posted by: Paul Spain Dec 17 2014, 04:39 AM |
Are these made using Nils's bases or scratch built? Nice cars. |
Posted by: XJ220 Dec 17 2014, 06:39 AM |
It's not mine as far as I am aware, too accurate Perhaps Hot Pursuit's? |
Posted by: Code 4 Dec 18 2014, 07:44 AM |
The base is from an old car from Police garage. But the shape of it is totally different. I reshaped it to refine the details so it looks more like the real Crownvic. I also take requests, If someone wants a Crown vic from a specific department as a traffic replacement. I'll try to make it for you. Greetings, Code 4 |

Very nice, looks highly realistic! |

@ XJ220, Thank you very much! Georgia State Patrol CVPI Polycount: 3501 Greetings, Code 4 |
Posted by: XJ220 Dec 22 2014, 08:21 AM |
This one looks very nice as well! Just one thing - are you using projected normals for the main body? The door molding and the doors don't really fit together lighting-wise. Edit: And does GSP really use red in their lightbars? |
Posted by: Code 4 Dec 22 2014, 10:56 AM |
I use another projecton on police cars with alternative paint scheme's like the GSP. I only forgot to put the projecton on the door-strips. About the red lights, Some of the later Crown vic's have red lights in the lightbars. https://www.flickr.com/photos/thomasbluebirdic/14672025703 Greetings, Code 4 |
Posted by: NFS Police Force Dec 22 2014, 01:45 PM |
That yellow . I may be wrong . Thy are change the law .All cops cars have to have one red light on there patrol car .One on the drive side of the police car .To keep there patrol office safe on a traffic stop . |
Posted by: Paul Spain Dec 22 2014, 04:24 PM |
In the OLD times even police of the deep South once had only red lights..then in the 1970's they went to blue or red/blue..So it makes since Georgia would go with something like that..Even Florida uses red/blue now days from what I saw and even some using red only LED lightbars. |
Posted by: Code 4 Dec 23 2014, 06:20 AM |
One of my favorites : Oxnard Police Dept. Polycount: 3569 Greetings, Code 4 |
Posted by: XJ220 Dec 23 2014, 07:00 AM |
I remember this one from the SOTDs at NFSAddons. Rather simplistic yet nice scheme |
Posted by: Code 4 Dec 24 2014, 06:37 AM |
San Francisco P.D. 1998 Crown Vic. Polycount: 3492 I really like the older Crown vic's with the silver grill and accents. But I have to admit that the later ones with the black honeycomb-grills look a bit more cooler. Greetings, Code 4 |
Posted by: XJ220 Dec 25 2014, 06:19 AM |
Yeah it almost looks old this way, like a car from the 50's Another very nice cruiser, the lighting setup of the lightbar looks very cool! |
Posted by: Code 4 Dec 28 2014, 11:33 AM |
Monterey County Sheriff CVPI Polycount: 3589 surprisingly! Greetings, Code 4 |
Posted by: XJ220 Dec 31 2014, 05:25 AM |
Nice! Just the white ending cap of the lightbar looks a bit odd. |
Posted by: Paul Spain Dec 31 2014, 08:16 AM
I wonder if this ain't Whelen's answer to what AeroDynic done?..Not all had it but some have builtin side spotlights on the side caps. Some even had a flasher put on the white sides..So my only guess is Whelen felt they had to copy it so not to be left out of the "coolness" . |
Posted by: Code 4 Jan 1 2015, 08:42 AM |
The older lightbars from the Monterey CS really have those white ends. Actually they change into blue at the rear end of the lightbar at both sides. But I made it completely white in NFS 4 to make the lighting look better. That lightbar is history already on my NFS4 version. I replaced it with a LED-lightbar. Polycount: 3581 Happy new year everyone!, Code 4 |
Posted by: XJ220 Jan 4 2015, 12:10 PM |
Happy New Year to you too! I think I once read that these white caps are supposed to improve 45° visibility by just being brighter. Maybe it's just that the light in-game is on the other side in this shot. Anyhow, the upgraded version looks sweet! |
Posted by: Code 4 Jan 17 2017, 03:53 AM |
*Wiping dust off reply button* -"Achoo!" I have some new stuff to show you guys! Anybody remember the blank 3D-body of the Driver San Francisco crownvic someone posted here on PoliceHQ a long time ago? Well... just under 10k polies but since the appearance of the VEG-patch everything is usefull as a traffic replacement or can be driven in combination with every high poly car you can imagine. It was a dream come true I have to say. Gr. Code 4 |
Posted by: BrabusAMG Jan 17 2017, 12:55 PM |
Great to have you back! The new car looks great! The base is of course very accurate (at 10,000 polies there is no excuse for inaccuracy). Is that Nils's X2100 lightbar? |
Posted by: NFS Police Force Jan 17 2017, 05:48 PM |
Good to see you are still making cars. |
Posted by: Dark One Jan 17 2017, 07:10 PM |
Hey! Nice to still see you around! It feels like eternity since you have made these lowpoly CVPIs, and this one looks great as well. Also, 10k is still pretty decent for HS cruiser. And I'm saying this as somebody who do remember when people actually struggled to keep the polycount bellow that, and the moment they couldn't help it but to release 20k cars, they defected to HP2 or GTA. |

It's been a long time indeed. I appreciate the interest in my work. My old computer on which I had NFSHS installed died a year ago. I tried to install the game on my laptop but I had issues with my antivirus program. The program saw the file NFSHS.icd as a virus strangely enough. I bypassed the issue and the games is running again. Anyway, lets get back to the new cars; The equipement on the car is not that special. the lights and interior cage are made by myself. Like my old low poly CVPI it has the interior, wheels, and driver from the CVPI made by Nils. A comparison between my new and old CVPI: Gr. Code 4 |
Posted by: Paul Spain Jan 18 2017, 07:35 PM |
Lookin' good. And I finally found something I'd been looking far and wide for as well, A Chery QQ, Now we can have that nice smiles at you car LOL once I get it done. |

Palm Beach County Sheriff CVPI I also found some older low poly CVPI's on my harddisk, shall I upload them here? Gr. Code 4 |
Posted by: NFS Police Force Jan 20 2017, 10:17 AM |
Yes send them my way |
Posted by: Code 4 Jan 23 2017, 03:07 AM |
I think I woun't upload the older vic's here. I'll remake them with my new base. I think it looks much better this way to be honest Gr. Code 4 |
Posted by: NFS Police Force Jan 23 2017, 11:26 AM |
Are you nuts .Thoes cars look great . Don't let your great work go to waste . Let use post them . |
Posted by: Code 4 Jan 23 2017, 12:28 PM |
Alright I'll send you the cars then. Your remark motivated me to look even further back into my old backup's. I did find some nice stuff there! Cars I don't even remember creating them. I'll post some pictures of those cars soon. Greetings, Code 4 |
Posted by: NFS Police Force Jan 23 2017, 03:36 PM |
That great to hear .Keep up the Great work . |
Posted by: Dark One Jan 23 2017, 04:35 PM |
I won't put it as bluntly, but it would be indeed shame to miss on these cars. It's nice compromise between the good look and the final polycount. Just because these limitations shouldn't matter anymore, doesn't mean that there is no interest in these cars anymore. And if you really want to remake some of these on that new base, you can always release it as version 2.0 or something. Speaking of which, while looking for some old stuff that went MIA over the time, I noticed that your Orange Country Sheriff CVPI is not on the site either. |
Posted by: Code 4 Jan 24 2017, 12:25 PM |
I still have that Orange County Sheriff Crown Vic somewhere on my pc. Alright, I picked three cars from my old backup folder which I think are really interesting. Two Caprices. Base made by Nils. And a 1997 Crown Vic. Some textures are also from Nils's cars but the base is made by somebody else. I don't know who but it is definitely made by someone from NFS Police HQ or the old Police Garage. Pictures are made in CarCad, that's why the interiors are not visible. Gr. Code 4 |
Posted by: Paul Spain Jan 25 2017, 04:29 PM |
That RCMP Caprice has been up a while now, It's a OLD Boxcar Racer model. http://nfspolicehq.com/index.php?ind=downloads&op=entry_view&iden=1145 |
Posted by: Code 4 Jan 26 2017, 02:07 AM |
I see what I did there. I made a low poly version using Nils's base and BoxCarRacer's parts and textures to use it as a traffic replacement. Gr. Code 4 |
Posted by: Paul Spain Jan 27 2017, 08:43 PM
Oh I see, Looks good, But on the lightbar, You have the grill in the back too It's only in the front on these, No worry though..I had the same issue ages ago when I first began using TwinSonic back when I was using one textured to pics, I didn't have the option to change up the center much . Now I got better parts to use . |

Next to my interest in the mighty Crown vic, I'm also a big fan of japanese cars. A small project next to my new CVPI: This car will look good as a little japanese kei police car I think. In the background two Anchorage (Alaska) police dept. CVPI's with the new base. Gr. Code 4 |
Posted by: noise Jan 31 2017, 09:36 AM |
Is that Japanese car (Front looks like Honda Jazz) availible for nfs4? |
Posted by: Paul Spain Jan 31 2017, 05:03 PM
I can't see it cause work blocks PhotoBucket but is it the car of You're Under Arrest? 1986 Honda Today G? |
Posted by: BrabusAMG Jan 31 2017, 09:47 PM |
Yes, it's a Honda Today. What's the track? Apart from a Hometown replacement, that is. The scenery looks a bit like Central Otago. |
Posted by: Code 4 Feb 1 2017, 12:51 AM |
@Noise; Yes, it's a conversion done by me. I'll make it available for NFS. @ Paul; You guessed it! Even without the screenshot, nice! It's a stock version of the Honda Today. (for now) Polycount is very high though. @Brabus AMG; Track is Stonetown by Zacabeb. My first new crown vics will roll out of my gargage very soon and will be available here on PoliceHQ. First cars are: Alaska State Troopers CVPI Anchorage P.D. CVPI Seattle P.D. CVPI Palm Beach County Sheriff CVPI I haven't found my old Orange County Sheriff yet. Gr. Code 4 |
Posted by: Paul Spain Feb 2 2017, 03:06 AM
Noise's "It looks like a Honda Jazz from the front" comment was the only clue I needed How high is the poly count? I'm wanting to see what Veg's patch maxes out at so could you send me the high uncut version? |
Posted by: Code 4 Feb 2 2017, 04:41 AM |
Polycount is around 14000. In the last screenshot I have 5 CVPI's with a polycount of 10000 each, normal traffic vehicles, the honda today and a high poly opponent. Since the veg patch I used several combinations of cars with a high polycount and the game never crashed. In other news: Gr. Code 4 |
Posted by: Paul Spain Feb 2 2017, 04:55 AM
I see, I have used this car as traffic police as well as my recent Dodge Royal Monaco mod of it: My soon to be released Dragnet cars are high poly as well being originally 80 thousand + BUT although both ZModelers can take that (it only slows down 1.07B) the other editing tools crashed so I had to knock it down alot. |
Posted by: Code 4 Feb 2 2017, 05:06 AM |
I only have some minor issues wit FCE finish. It crashes when you want to move the car around. Sometimes I can fix that by removing unnecessary verts using CarCad. The normals of the car will look odd after that but that is also fixable with FCE Finish. Gr. Code 4 |
Posted by: Paul Spain Feb 2 2017, 10:22 AM
That's odd because my Dragnet cars are about if not higher than that and they don't crash FCE Finish 2, Might be something with the center. Did you try centering the FCE in FCE Centerer? Also maybe clicking that one thing in FCE Finish 2 to center a part? You'll have to go part by part to do it but it might fix it. |
Posted by: Paul Spain Feb 2 2017, 02:46 PM |
Looking at that it appears you need to flip the left side round to get the text correct. 警察庁 also if you want to put Miyuki and Natsumi into this car you can get them from the one i have up made by Nik (RacingFreak). |
Posted by: Code 4 Feb 3 2017, 03:57 AM |
I'll keep this drive so I when you give a speeder ticket, the right driver stands next to de car. I still borrowed some textures and the lightbar from your car though. The texture on the wheelcap is also the same as in the anime now. Gr. Code 4 |

I love these! Low poly but still nicely detailed. Do these all work as traffic replacements for the most part? |
Posted by: NFS Police Force Feb 9 2017, 09:49 AM |
Wow Sweet |
Posted by: Code 4 Feb 9 2017, 12:44 PM |
The cars aren't low poly. In fact they have a pretty high polycount. A car has approximately 10.000 polies. If they are useful as a traffic replacement? Well, if you use the Veg-patch everything is possible. All the cars in the picture were used by me as traffic replacements. I never had any issues with the polycount. Here is the Juneau Police car used as a traffic replacement. Polycount: 11815 Gr. Code 4 |
Posted by: BrabusAMG Feb 9 2017, 02:25 PM |
Nice! Some of the cars could use better LED lightbars, like the Whelen Liberty and the Code 3 X2100. XJ220 made them. With high-poly cars like that, high-quality lightbars really complete them. Still, a cool collection of cars . Chris could use that Oregon SP texture; since there's a request for an OSP CVPI on the request forum that hasn't been done yet (it's for HP2). I'd love to make one myself, but I can't do HP2 yet. |
Posted by: NFS Police Force Feb 9 2017, 03:28 PM |
I passed on that car . It was to hard . The lines did not match up right .BrabusAMG I posted the walkthrough on how to do nfshp2 . It easy if you use the tools right . I am here if you need my help . It took me awile to learn but I did it so can you . It up to you . |

Posted by: Code 4 Feb 10 2017, 07:30 AM |
I abandoned my policy since the new base. But if someone might requests a low poly vehicle. I still have the old base if necessary. The first post of this thread was two years ago?! Wow, time flies! Gr. Code 4 |
Posted by: Dark One Feb 12 2017, 11:04 PM |
You sure waste no time. Nice selection you have there, once again. Especially the black'n'whites and that Maroon Five-O. And that Honda looks great, but are you sure you don't want to use some more detailed lightbar for it? |
Posted by: Code 4 Feb 13 2017, 07:08 AM |
I try to create police equipment mostly by myself. I'm not the best at creating parts unfortunately This little fella is also ready to go now. Gr. Code 4 |
Posted by: Dark One Feb 13 2017, 09:41 AM |
Well, the lightbar does look alright with proper graphic setup, but since Frank just made detailed Aerotwinsonic for his NYPD cars, and it is pretty much the sister model to that Patlite lightbar, maybe you can give it a try, and ask him. It would improve the authenticity greatly. But it's up to you. |
Posted by: NFS Police Force Feb 13 2017, 09:51 AM |
We do have that kind of lightbar . |
Posted by: Dark One Feb 13 2017, 10:20 AM |
You mean the HP2 one? That would also be an option, but Frank did his best to stay reasonable with the polycount, while some HP2 parts tend to have the polycount of a car whole. |

Last week I've been busy creating details and features to my CVPI instead of creating new paint schemes. I'll put 3D lightbars on the cars I create from now on. I'll also use some more detailed equipement on the cars. I created a new pusbar which is a lot more realistic then the old one I used on my cars. The headlights are now 3D as well. All my later cars have the Original interior of the "Driver San Francisco" game. I also placed some extra equipement in the interior. Here the result in game. It's a shame that the anti aliasing disappears in screenshots. Gr. After it's posted I think I'll make a fictional Unite'D'Pursuit out of the base to go along with the 1991 Caprice And later I might do the 1992-1997 Ford CrownVic to a Unite'D'Pursuit as well to make everything complete for my fictional pursuit squad. OR who knows?..Maybe SDQ really does have a Unite'D'Pursuit squadron . |
Posted by: BrabusAMG Feb 23 2017, 03:58 PM |
Wow! Is that arrow sign a spoiler part? Also, may I have that lightbar? I've been working on my own high(ish)-detail lightbar collection for my cars, and I see that the MX7000 on that CVPI will be easier to use than the one I currently have. By the way, I'm also modifying that CVPI base the same way that Louis does, since I noticed that we don't have an easily accessible collection of CVPI bases here! @ Paul: Just to let you know, the pursuit unit would be called "Unite de Pursuit" in French; because the apostrophe is only used when the next word starts with a vowel (as in "Unite d'Urgence") . |

Oh no ,Now I have to rewrite it on the one I made and then modify the file . Thanks for letting me know this though. |
Posted by: Dark One Feb 26 2017, 11:50 PM |
Nice! When I think about it, maybe I still like the '97 Crown Vic more than the CVPI. So having more of them around is always good thing. |
Posted by: Code 4 Feb 27 2017, 01:39 AM |
Good the hear there's also interest in older police vehicle types. I have some ideas for the '97 Crown Vic and also some caprices maybe. I don't know the real author of the '97 Crown Vic unfortunately. I know is a Police Garage car but I don't have the original anymore. The only thing I remember of it was that it had a livery from a Florida agency. @BrabusAMG; The upright Arrow on the roof of BoxCarRacer's Crown Vic is an OND part. The laid down Arrow is an OD part. So when you arrest a speeder the OD arrow disappears and the OND arrow appears on the roof of the car as some sort of a traffic advisor. Upcoming cars: '11 Minnesota State Patrol CVPI. '11 Oregon State Trooper CVPI. '11 Napa County Sheriff CVPI. Gr. Code 4 |

I have some bad news. The Honda Today I converted for Need For Speed High Stakes has some issues concerning the copyright. I got the 3D-model from a website which said that the 3D-models were free to use. It turnes out that the model of the Honda Today does have copyright from the original owner. I contacted Remko from NFSADDONS to ask to remove the cars from the website. As for the Police Honda Today; It won't be available here on the website anymore. Please excuse me for the inconvenience. It is. The owner posted it on that website, so he/she would probably give permission, depending on what was in the copyright. Also, nice CVPI! We do have a detailed StreetHawk in the Member Bases section if you're looking for a better version. Are those wheels modified versions of Nils's? I'm currently making a new version of Dodge Boy's CVPI base and I'm using several of Nils's wheels, so I can have all CVPI wheel types. For the early steel wheels, I'm using Dodge Boy's originals, which take a lot of texture space. |

I stick to the Original copyright of the car. I will try to get in contact with the Original owner. I started a topic on NFSADDONS about the situaton. let's get back to the original meaning of this topic; @BrabusAMG; Thanks! Those are indeed a modified version of Nils's wheels. I need to remake the hubcap for this car it is the wrong kind for this rim. Texture space is the same as the original wheels from Nils. Gr. Code 4 |
