Tonight on the evening news I learned that the Philadelphia Police are the latest agency to add hybrid cars to their fleet they have Ford Fusion Engris with more on the way along with more charging stations to come. These vehicles will only be used for community relations and not as patrol cars.

Isn't the title quite an exaggeration, then? 'Goes green' in my opinion implies that a major share of their cars uses alternative engines, not just a handful of PR vehicles.

Moreover, I don't consider hybrids 'green' at all. The electricity has to be generated somewhere, the cars are heavier and disposal of the batteries is not such a 'green' task, either wink.png

I bet police forces (especially traffic cops) can't wait until fast EVs like Teslas become cheap enough for fleets biggrin.png.

No, I don't like hybrids either. But at least they got a Fusion and not a Prius, right?

Have you seen the actual distance Teslas can cover before they need to recharge? I wouldn't want one if it was gifted to me.

I hear that they are working on longer ranges. By then, they should be cheaper to buy as well.

And that development is very necessary. Current ranges are ridiculous, esp. if you make use of the power/speed a Tesla provides.
