Over the past few days, a convoy of 34 McLaren cars has been travelling around New Zealand. It was organised by McLaren and the drivers have come from as far away as Canada, Hong Kong, Japan and the UK. Apparently they drove through Wanaka yesterday, but I missed it .
Anyway, an Australian brought one of these over: I bet they had fun on the roads down here . So many corners! He must have had fun driving near Queenstown today, because this happened: The skid marks are apparently 80 metres long! A McLaren marketing manager said the car was not driving at excessive speeds, but I don't think that a hypercar with carbon ceramic brakes would make skid marks if it was only driving at 100! The driver had minor injuries to his thumb, probably caused by the steering wheel. That's probably the least of his worries, though; how much do you think it costs to fix a 1994 McLaren F1? -------------------- |

Um..Somewhere like over a million bucks . Anyway glad he's ok. I wish they'd show the damage, I'm kind of curious how bad it was but you can't see when they tarp the damn thing .

Enjoying this car very much :D |

Apparently the organisers tried to stop the reporters taking photos.
Anyway, here's a better view of the skid marks: Looks like he put his foot down too early and did a 360. The damage looks pretty minor. That just goes to show that even people with expensive cars still make silly mistakes. I guess 621 horsepower must be tempting . Still, the car is apparently worth around $20 million, so one should really keep that in mind. There's a GT racing track less than an hour from the crash site; why didn't they have an event there? It was built for supercars. -------------------- |

He has been charged with careless driving, but he didn't show up in court. I wonder why. It's not like he can't afford the fine . Still, since his repair bill will have several zeros in it, maybe he's been punished enough?
